My Background

Hi there. My name is Justin Hanson and I’m a fourth year medical student at UCLA with plans to apply into ophthalmology this year. After receiving more requests for mentoring over social media, I decided to create an official platform to help others interested in medicine get into medical school.

I majored in Biology at Northwestern University and also received a minor in Art History. My research was in biomedical engineering. I was a member of the Simpson Querrey Institute for Bionanotechnology where I helped develop a sweat patch designed to track physiologic biomarkers. I also swam Division I for Northwestern’s swim team all four years as an undergraduate.

After graduation I went back home to Orange County where I spent two years as a medical assistant and surgical technician for a cornea specialist. I developed a passion for ophthalmology and since starting medical school at UCLA have devoted my time to ophthalmology research. If you ever see me around the Stein Eye Institute make sure to say hi!
